Response to "This is Water"

I really liked when the author was talking about how one thing can mean two totally different things to different people. A lot of times I feel people don't take other peoples views into account but I think this is important. Everyone is different and not everyone is going to see the same thing in the same way. Also like right off the bat how he showed that people often don't ask some of the most important questions. Or they just go through the motions without actually understanding whats going on. I also like the writing style of this article because I feel as though it is similar to mine. How the author just goes on and on about one thing and how it leads into another. I recently started another blog and thats what I feel like I do when I write in it. I guess more then just how I write though its how I think. One second I will be driving and someone will cut me off and they are a jerk but then I think well maybe someone the love just got hurt or they are having a bad day or they...you get the picture. I just keep thinking of different scenarios in my head.
One thing I didn't like about this article or I guess I could say I just didn't understand was when the author was talking about suicide. Someone pretty close to me has committed suicide rather recently so I think the whole idea that it was brought up in a graduation speech was a little weird. I think when I saw the word suicide I just couldn't comprehend the rest of the paragraph because I was stuck on that. I don't believe that people who commit suicide are dead long before hand. I don't know I guess it is still a sensitive subject to me. Another thing I didn't like was when the author talked about there being no such thing as atheism. I mean I get where they are coming from but who is he to say that there isn't atheism? He doesn't know, he may not be atheist but that doesn't mean other people aren't or don't define themselves as it. I don't know I just feel like thats me saying there is no such thing as Judaism. I may not follow those practices but other people do so it has to be real right? Okay last thing I had to comment on that I didn't really like was at the end when the author said "education really is the job of a lifetime." Now I took this as him saying that you need an education to get a good job but I know plenty of people that have really good jobs (better than some that did get a college degree) and didn't go to college. Overall i just had quite a bit of mixed feelings on this one.
